I joined as a special to get first-hand experience as an officer. I wanted to be able support my local community and provide reassurance to friends and family.
I enjoy speaking with members of the public from different cultures and communities, learning about their values and beliefs. I have learnt a lot of skills as a special constable which I have transferred to my day to day role. In addition the people I work with are like one big family.
My attestation was one of the proudest and most momentous days in my life and more recently I was proud to have been promoted to special inspector.
My family are very proud of the work I do and it’s a real talking point with friends, all they want to know is what I have been up to at the weekend.
If you are thinking about becoming a special constable, be prepared to learn and enjoy every moment.
